Potential for increasing groundnut production in Tanzania by enhancing technical efficiency: A stochastic meta-frontier analysis

چکیده

Groundnut crop is one of the major sources financial and food security for a large number Tanzanian smallholder farmers. However, production groundnuts in Tanzania underdeveloped, yields are reportedly 2.5 to 3 times lower than other African nations such as Nigeria. There factors that contribute including cultivation outdated plant varieties, increased climate variability, infestation pests diseases, use farming techniques. To analyze scope increasing groundnut production, this study investigates compares technical efficiencies (TEs) technological gap ratios (TGRs) Tanzania's four main groundnut-producing regions, namely Central zone, Lake Zone, Southern highland by using two-step meta frontier model. We used ICRISAT data collected under Tropical Legume-III project during 2017–18. Our results show very low level efficiency regions significant regional differences TEs, TGRs, Meta Technical Efficiencies (MTEs). The identifies tremendous increase productivity enhancing its key drivers may help harness potential.

Technical Efficiency of Teaching Hospitals in Iran: The Use of Stochastic Frontier Analysis, 1999–2011

Background Hospitals are highly resource-dependent settings, which spend a large proportion of healthcare financial resources. The analysis of hospital efficiency can provide insight into how scarce resources are used to create health values. This study examines the Technical Efficiency (TE) of 12 teaching hospitals affiliated with Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) between 1999 and 2...

stochastic frontier model with distributional assumptions for rice production technical efficiency

efficiency in agricultural production is indicative of the efficiency level of farm households in their farming activities. farmers in developing countries do not make use of all the potential technological resources, thus making inefficient decisions in their agricultural activities. herein, technical efficiency in relation with the production of three types of rice crop (boro, aus and aman) w...

the comparative assessment of technical efficiency in the iran cement industry (stochastic frontier analysis approach)

the different model specifications have been proposed to estimate time-varying technical efficiency in the last two decades. these models have resulted different efficiency scores based on their built-in specifications. this study investigates the temporal pattern of technical efficiency based on cornwell, sickles, and schmidt (css, 1990) as well as lee and schmidt (ls, 1993) models. in order t...

Measuring Technical Efficiency in the Stochastic Varying Coefficient Frontier Model

Due to the assumption that the best practice methods refer to each input separately instead of the whole set of inputs used by a firm, the benchmark technology as defined in the stochastic varying coefficient frontier model may be infeasible and theoretically improper whenever the maximum response coefficients are not coming from the same production unit. To overcome this problem we suggest an ...
